10_19_10 - 10_25_10

We have conclude our work on ConQuest, and the prototype presentation went very well.  After, we selected our new groups.  This next project will be prototyping for the Smart Table.  Below is my Dev. Doc that I will pitch to the team on Monday.

Game Title: Pig Pen

Game Description:  Pig Pen is a cooperative game (up to 4 players) Each player must put the correct number and kind of farm animals in each pen.  This is a cooperative interpretation of hungry hungry hippo.

Game Type: Educational

Goal of the Game: Students will understand simple number concepts and relationships.
(UEN kindergarten- mathematics)

How to Play:

Step 1: Select the number of player

Step 2:   The game announces the goal, with text and voice.

Step 3.  The players must help each other fulfill the goal to complete the level.

Step 4:  Repeat Steps 2 and 3 until lesson is complete.

Examples of questions:

Put 2 of each animal in each pen.

Put all the chickens in the red pen, put all the pigs in the blue pen.

Put 2 ducks and 3 chicks in each pen.

Sort all the animals, then point to the pen that has the most.

Controls:

Each player moves an animal by placing their finger on it and moving their finger on the Smart Table.  When a player lifts their finger off the Smart Table the animal will stop moving and begin to wonder again.

When an animal is in the pen ( pass the goal line) the animal will not leave the pen.

Scope for Prototype:

Our goal, is to define an art direction that is fun and distinct.  Prove the technology supports and enhances game play.  Identify the fun and prove the value of the game experience with the help of our mentor.  Show that the project makes financial sense to produce through market research.

Art direction:

Fun, bright colors, cartoon/ illustrative animals, friendly fun facial animations.
Have at lest 4 different animals (pig, sheep, chicken, rabbit, cat, cow, dog, duck, donkey, mouse).

Game play and tech demo:

Working menus
Working AI
2-4 playable levels with specific goals.

Finding the Fun:

Play test with kids with-in the target age group.

Prove production value:

If we successes in the first 3 goals, conduct research to find: how big are target market is, production cost, budget needed to build full game, and gauge the response from institutions and organizations interested in purchasing the technology (I.e. Smart Table) and software (I.E. Pig Pen).

Vision beyond prototype:

Pitch game, and acquire funding for full production.
Create all 10 farm animals.
Program levels to teach the full kindergarten mathematics curriculum.

 Level Ideas:

put x amount of each animal in each pin, or x amount in the blue, Y in the green etc..

put half the sheep in each barn.
